Testimonials

    • I cannot overstate what a great choice it was to recently work with Alex Rudall on a project. He was able to successfully integrate OpenAI functionality with a web application using Ruby on Rails and the ruby-openai gem that he personally authored. His understanding and thoughtfulness to create the MVP was remarkable. His intuition allowed him to quickly grasp the issues involved in a healthcare setting and the many nuances associated with collecting healthcare information from various sources... In the end, he had successfully developed an MVP which we will incorporate into our operations and continue to use. More importantly, I was pleasantly surprised that he could develop such high quality, well documented, and clear code in such a short period of time. He really surprised me with an MVP ahead of schedule. Hands down, this is the most ethical, efficient, and productive developer I have ever worked with (and there are many!). Alex is a total pleasure to work with, and we will continue to work with him in the future.

    • Working with Alex is a delight. We've spent so many hours pair programming together and every time, he demonstrates an excellent ability to comprehend, hold and express the mental models of the systems he's working on. When I say express, I mean in terms of writing code as well as explaining to fellow developers and non-developer colleagues. He's demonstrated time and time again that he has a lot of empathy for users, and is not afraid to be an advocate for them with superiors and contemporaries. In the rare occasions that Alex makes a mistake, his humility comes through sincerely and his never-ending desire to learn new skills and improve his existing ones. He is patient, kind and a great communicator, and hopefully I've made it clear that he is a really, really excellent developer. I've really enjoyed working with him.

    • Alex is one of the best developers I've ever worked with. His responses and deliveries are timely and value-added. He's open to working with new people and a great mentor to junior developers. I hope I have another chance to work with him again.

    • I had the pleasure of working with Alex for about a year and a half at Mo. Although sometimes reluctant to admit it, Alex is a highly talented and effective software engineer. Alex has mastered the rare ability to balance the needs of engineering best practice and the urgency often found in startups. He deeply cares about his work and is a great advocate for improving engineering quality. All round interesting guy and fun to work with, would love the chance to work with him again in the future. Thanks Alex!

    • I worked with Alex for a little over a year at Mo in the same team. It was an absolute pleasure on a personal and professional level. In delivery, and under tight deadlines, Alex was great to work with, and I learned a lot about computer science and building things in the right way. Beyond that, what stands out about Alex is that he cares. He cares about the problems which we are trying to solve with technology, the people we are trying to solve them for, and the team culture while doing it. I'd be super happy to work with him again...probably why I'm always trying to twist his arm into working on side projects.

    • This seems cheap, will you raise your prices?

I may raise prices in the future (with warning), but will always aim to add a lot more value than I charge.

    • How does it work?

You get unfettered access to my private Calendly, and can book in as many sessions as need per day, including pair programming, mentorship for other engineers. I'll also join your Slack for quick comms. We can work out a schedule that works for you based on your needs.

    • What can you help me build?

Any feature you need to help your business grow. Performance improvements are also an area of expertise, and reliability issues can fixed quickly and with tests to stop them happening again. I'm also experienced in building new MVPs from scratch using Tailwind.

    • Who are you?

I'm Alex! I've been a product engineer for over 10 years, building major production systems at highly successful businesses. I wrote and maintain the ruby-openai gem, which has been downloaded over 7 million times.

    • What tech do you enjoy working with?

Ruby, Rails, Elixir, Phoenix, Postgres, MongoDB, JS, Vue, React, Next JS, Tailwind, OpenAI, Anthropic, and Midjourney, among many others.
